Founding and Background

Memrise was founded by Ed Cooke, Ben Whately, and Greg Detre, who met while studying neuroscience and psychology at Oxford. Their shared interest in how humans learn and their determination to use technology to enhance learning led to the creation of Memrise¹. Ed Cooke, a Grandmaster of Memory, and Greg Detre, who earned a PhD in neuroscience, combined their expertise with Ben Whately’s experience in second language acquisition to develop the platform¹.
